How Catalina Coupons Work

Catalina Coupons are the coupons we get that are printed at the register during check out. I have recently discovered that there are two different types of coupons that print out there; store coupons and manufacturer coupons.

Store Coupons are generally a certain amount off your next purchase at that store. For example, you can not use a Walgreens Register Rewards at Meijer. You may only use them at Walgreens.

Manufacturer Coupons are coupons that are an amount off a certain product normally. These coupons can be used in any store. Like the coupons in the picture above, even though they say “Meijer” above the bar code, by the expiration date they say “Manufacturer CPN”, this means it can be used at any store.

I had NO CLUE that you could do this! I always assumed that if it was printed at Meijer, you used it at Meijer. Or if you got it at Target, you used it at Target, but that is not the case at all. If it says Manufacturer Coupon on it, you can use it anywhere.

So next time Family Fare gives you a coupon like this and that coupon would work great with a deal offered at Meijer, use it there and don’t let it go to waste!

Unexpected Purell Deal

On Saturday, during my longer than expected trip to Meijer, I found an awesome unexpected deal on trial sized items.  Which are one of my favorites to shop for.

Trial size items are great for storing in your purse or diaper bag, putting in a gift basket, donating to women’s centers or homeless shelters, or even for everyday use.

At Meijer last week all trial sized items were B2G1 Free (buy two get one free).  This deal caught me by surprise, so I started filling the cart with deodorant, shaving cream, baby soap, shaving cream, razors, shaving cream (have I mentioned shaving cream yet?  I needed it!  That’s another story though).  Then I cam across trial sized Purell Hand Sanitizer.  I remembered that I had some Purell coupons from last Sunday’s paper.

The coupon was $1.00 off any 3 Purell products of any size.  Combined with a B2G1 Free deal, I only paid $1.00 for 3!  I ended up grabbing about 9 of them.  I plan on making a gift bag for Brody’s Pre-School teacher that he can give her on the first day of school along with all the other school supplies deals that I get my hands on and the gift basket will most likely be a Thirty-One bag (of course!).

I am posting these unexpected deals to remind you how useful it is to bring your coupon binder to the store with you.  I wouldn’t have gotten this great deal with out bringing my binder with me.

Don’t forget to share your unexpected deals with me, tag me in your haul pictures on Facebook, and share my page with your friends.  The more likes that the page gets, the more giveaways we can do and I have lots of giveaways lined up so get to sharing!

Keep on saving,

Unexpected Deal on Enfagrow!

On Saturday, I went shopping at Meijer.  My trip was only supposed to consist of a few awesome deals.  But as things normally go, I found a few more amazing savings.  Then a few turned into a lot and I ended up filling the cart full.

One incredibly unexpected deal that I found was on Enfagrow Toddler Milk.  I had “clipped” a mPerks coupon for $5.00 off one 4 pack of Enfagrow.

When I was strolling through the baby food aisle, I stopped to check out the price of 4 packs.  They were not on sale, but they are regularly priced at only $5.99!

I was able to get one pack for only .99 cents!  If you are able to find another coupon to combine with it you could get it at an even better price or Free!  I recently checked my husband’s mPerks account and the coupon is still available to clip.

Please share your awesome unexpected deals with us.  Leave a comment below or take a picture of your haul and post it on Motherhood isn’t for the weak’s Facebook page.  Don’t forget to share the page with your friends. The more ‘likes’ on the page, the more giveaways we can do!

Happy Deal Hunting,

My Tramatizing Meijer Shopping Trip: I will always double check my purse!

My trip to Meijer today was one to remember, that’s for sure!  I was happy that I was able to leave my son with my father-in-law, what a relief!

I spent about an hour and a half or so shopping (not to mention the time that it took me to get everything together to actually go).  When I got to the check out and the cashier started ringing up half of my first transaction, I looked in my purse and saw that I didn’t have my wallet (!!!).  On top of it all, there were about 4 people waiting in line behind me.

The cashier said I could write a check, so I got a little relieved.  Buuuut… apparently if you’ve never wrote a check to Meijer before the computer asks for ID.  Kind of hard to accomplish since I didn’t have my wallet!

The poor customers behind me not only had to wait through all my coupons and everything, they watched me have to cancel my order.  Luckily, the cashier was awesome and let me run to the bank and get some cash and then come right back to get my groceries.  The bank was even really reasonable since I didn’t have my ID or debit card.  So in the end it all worked out and turned out being well worth the hassle.

I ended up saving $117.92, and only spending $81.52.  I’d say that was worth all that hassle, I think.

I got some great deals, including free bread thanks to mPerks, free box of macaroni and cheese compliments of Macsurance, and hair dye for only .07 cents!!  Other awesome deals included kid’s Disney vitamins for about $1.12 each (originally $5.49 each), pierogies for about $1.15 each, and a gallon of iced coffee for .49 cents!

The hair dye deal is the reason why I strongly encourage people to bring their coupons to the store with them.  I found the hair dye on clearance for $2.07 (original price was $8.28) and I had a coupon for the Natural Instincts hair color from last week’s P&G for $2.00 off one making it .07 cents for one box!

I use the binder method to organize my coupons.  As long as you keep up with it every week, it’s a great way to have all your coupons sorted out and with you on your shopping trip in case you run into a great deal like the hair dye, which you can make even better.

Another deal I want to explain is the deal on the children’s vitamins.  The Disney vitamins were on sale for buy one get one free.  They are originally $5.49 each and with the B1G1 bring them down to about $2.74 each.  I found a coupon on for $1.25 off 1 and I printed off 2 of them.  Then I had a mPerks coupon that was $2.00 off of 3.  I bought 4 packs of vitamins and paid around $4.48 all together.  It’s like I actually got 3 of them for free!

That deal right there is why I coupon.  Without coupons and deal matching, we would never just buy multivitamins because there is no way we’d be able to afford them.  A healthier family is reason in its own to coupon.

Last deal, but not least (well, close to least!), the .49 cent gallon of iced coffee; I did this on my second transaction.  I bought one gallon in my first transaction but paid $1.49 for that gallon.  When my first transaction was over, I was given a $1.00 off your next purchase coupon.  With that coupon, a $1.00 International Delight Iced coffee coupon (found on, and then combined with a $1.00 off mPerks coupon, I only paid .49 cents for something that is originally $3.49 and it wasn’t even on sale!  Paying .49 cents now sounds better than waiting for it to go on sale and possibly paying more.

The rest of the deals I got I got I found on either,, or I simply found myself by walking around the store looking for deals and clearance items or looking at the ad and matching the deals to what coupons I already have.

Please let me know what spectacular deals you score this week, whether it is at Meijer, Walmart, or any other store.  And if you anyone has any questions about my trip, please email me at or post it in the comments section so everyone can learn something.

Thank you for reading and for all of your support and I hope everyone enjoyed hearing about my insane shopping trip.  Now I am going to be paranoid that I forgot my wallet every time I go shopping now!
