My trip to Meijer today was one to remember, that’s for sure! I was happy that I was able to leave my son with my father-in-law, what a relief!
I spent about an hour and a half or so shopping (not to mention the time that it took me to get everything together to actually go). When I got to the check out and the cashier started ringing up half of my first transaction, I looked in my purse and saw that I didn’t have my wallet (!!!). On top of it all, there were about 4 people waiting in line behind me.
The cashier said I could write a check, so I got a little relieved. Buuuut… apparently if you’ve never wrote a check to Meijer before the computer asks for ID. Kind of hard to accomplish since I didn’t have my wallet!
The poor customers behind me not only had to wait through all my coupons and everything, they watched me have to cancel my order. Luckily, the cashier was awesome and let me run to the bank and get some cash and then come right back to get my groceries. The bank was even really reasonable since I didn’t have my ID or debit card. So in the end it all worked out and turned out being well worth the hassle.
I ended up saving $117.92, and only spending $81.52. I’d say that was worth all that hassle, I think.
I got some great deals, including free bread thanks to mPerks, free box of macaroni and cheese compliments of Macsurance, and hair dye for only .07 cents!! Other awesome deals included kid’s Disney vitamins for about $1.12 each (originally $5.49 each), pierogies for about $1.15 each, and a gallon of iced coffee for .49 cents!
The hair dye deal is the reason why I strongly encourage people to bring their coupons to the store with them. I found the hair dye on clearance for $2.07 (original price was $8.28) and I had a coupon for the Natural Instincts hair color from last week’s P&G for $2.00 off one making it .07 cents for one box!
I use the binder method to organize my coupons. As long as you keep up with it every week, it’s a great way to have all your coupons sorted out and with you on your shopping trip in case you run into a great deal like the hair dye, which you can make even better.
Another deal I want to explain is the deal on the children’s vitamins. The Disney vitamins were on sale for buy one get one free. They are originally $5.49 each and with the B1G1 bring them down to about $2.74 each. I found a coupon on www.couponnetwork.com for $1.25 off 1 and I printed off 2 of them. Then I had a mPerks coupon that was $2.00 off of 3. I bought 4 packs of vitamins and paid around $4.48 all together. It’s like I actually got 3 of them for free!
That deal right there is why I coupon. Without coupons and deal matching, we would never just buy multivitamins because there is no way we’d be able to afford them. A healthier family is reason in its own to coupon.
Last deal, but not least (well, close to least!), the .49 cent gallon of iced coffee; I did this on my second transaction. I bought one gallon in my first transaction but paid $1.49 for that gallon. When my first transaction was over, I was given a $1.00 off your next purchase coupon. With that coupon, a $1.00 International Delight Iced coffee coupon (found on coupons.com), and then combined with a $1.00 off mPerks coupon, I only paid .49 cents for something that is originally $3.49 and it wasn’t even on sale! Paying .49 cents now sounds better than waiting for it to go on sale and possibly paying more.
The rest of the deals I got I got I found on either www.savingaddiction.com, www.sarahsdeals.net, or I simply found myself by walking around the store looking for deals and clearance items or looking at the ad and matching the deals to what coupons I already have.
Please let me know what spectacular deals you score this week, whether it is at Meijer, Walmart, or any other store. And if you anyone has any questions about my trip, please email me at email@example.com or post it in the comments section so everyone can learn something.
Thank you for reading and for all of your support and I hope everyone enjoyed hearing about my insane shopping trip. Now I am going to be paranoid that I forgot my wallet every time I go shopping now!
